My Approach
First-century Greek philosopher Epictetus stated "People are not disturbed by things, but rather, the view they take of things." The whole premise of my coaching revolves on this fundamental truth. It is not what is happening that is creating your pain - it's the thoughts you have about what is happening.
This is both good news and bad news. The bad news is that you are unwittingly causing your own problem (or at least, not helping to solve it). The good news is that it is easier to create a shift in your own view than it is to try to change the world around you and the people in it. That's easier said than done, and that's where I can assist you!
Before
your session, I'll ask you to fill out a Worksheet where you'll be able
to put on paper all your stressful thoughts and views about the situation.
I will assist you applying four questions and a 'turnaround' to
that concept. These four questions - well, your answers to them - are
major catalysts for huge shifts in the way you are seeing your problem.
During our session, we will get to the
heart of the matter and figure out the solution for yourself. You'll enlighten yourself with what you come to realize!
The four questions I use come from a profound method of self-inquiry called The Work of Byron Katie (aka "The Work"). The Work
is something that anyone with an open mind can do. It does not advocate
anything, therefore it is compatible with all religious beliefs and
spiritual practices. It is literally and simply four questions you can
use to shed new light on a stressful situation. It is meditation,
contemplation, self-realization. It's straightforward, easy, and fun!
It seems silly, maybe even too simple, but the results may surprise you. TRUST ME. :) It's not for the faint of heart!
Here's an idea the results I (and others) have experienced by seriously undertaking this process. The same is possible for you:- TOTAL CLARITY about how the problem actually got created and TOTAL POWER around what to do.
- The mystery clears up and you will know what to do from a place of your deepest truth.
- You will find the resolution you are looking for and move forward with peace.
- You will be able to heal hurts and mend the relationship, or end the relationship peacefully in a way that leaves each person honored.
- If communication is an issue, you will find the words and know exactly what to say.
- You will be able to let go, if that is what you are trying to do.
How does that sound?
To give you an idea of the process in action, you can read some written examples of The Work
here on my blog or watch clips of Byron Katie herself on
YouTube.com. (Please note that my style of facilitation differs from Katie's, but I still use the Four Questions.)
None of that, however, will be as powerful as you actually
experiencing this process for yourself.
